Now, back to our journey (this is two session's worth of catch up)...
The group had set out towards Dlir's Tower, and camped about a mile away from it to be safe. They were awoken in the morning by a loud clap of thunder followed by the sounds of arcing electricity. Going to investigate, they found a naked man in a round crater in the middle of a newly-created "clearing" in the forest, swearing left and right about how bad that just hurt. The man introduced himself to the party, "Good morning travelers! I am extremely lost..." He went on to tell them that his name is Aziraphale, and he had "teleported" in to explore Dlir's Tower in hopes of finding a special alchemical reagent.
Aziraphale was played by my good friend Zac who was in from out of state. He wanted to drop in on our game, and thought a time travelling character would be fun to play. So, I made him a sorcerer character who was from 100 years in the future. When he showed up, after his character's initial interaction with the party, he realized that he'd heard of them in the future and knew that their clearing of Dlir's Tower was important.
The group worked their way through the tower, dealing with lizardfolk, owlbears, and even a ghost-possessed flesh golem. One they were sure it was fully explored and cleared out (including some nice loot for the party, and Aziraphale's reagent), they set out to head towards Logerton, the nearest town. When they were a few hundred yards out from reaching town, the group was attacked by a group of bandits. During the group's initial parlay with them, Aziraphale noticed that one of them was using a swear that he himself had been taught by his father, who'd learned it from his father, and so on. He also looked kind of familiar... but by the time Aziraphale thought to try and calm down the fracas, the final, cursing, bandit was cut down, and Aziraphale *poofed* away, leaving behind no trace of himself...
Once the party reached Logerton, they spent the evening with a quiet meal and soft bed at one of the inns, and then they set off towards Riverton the next morning.
While in Riverton, Jor-El was introduced to Vilbia, an instructor at the Riverton School of Arcane Arts, and struck a deal to learn magic during a two-week crash-course for 6,000 gold coins. Jor-El's player was wanting to switch his Roguish Archetype from Thief to Arcane Trickster, and I figured what the hell. Peren and the others used this time to pursue information about a magic bow that he'd been told was from here. They eventually found the empty shrine where the bow used to be kept, and finally learned that its name is Mamorel, and it was stolen from its resting place about 376 years prior by a person named Borr Halgen.
After Jor-El finished his training, the party regrouped, and was tasked by the local Temple of the Five to recover a sword that had just been stolen by a troll named Groth.
This is where we ended our last session. The party is back on the road to continue their exploration of the Shrine-Barrow of Gurri Bloodbeard when we meet up again this Thursday!
